Management Inspirations | About Us

Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Hove, East Sussex, I have worked in London since 1991 in the media industry and have been a Director since 1993. I became a Fellow of the ICAEW in 2001.

I joined the Institute of Directors in 1995 and became a Fellow in 2003.

During my time as an auditor, from 1984 to 1991, I had the opportunity to get involved in organisations across many business markets. Working for a number of smaller firms of Chartered Accountants gave me in depth knowledge of the clients I worked for.

Over the last ten years I have worked for a number of companies in both Financial and General Management a Finance Director, Deputy Managing Director and Company Secretary. I have a very strong understanding of directorial responsibility, business strategy, reorganisation, cost controls, budgeting, medium-term forecasting and business development.

Using all these skills I have concentrated my energies to ensure that each business has a sound base for development, growth, profitability and long-term success.

Having attended hundreds of Board Meetings, and taken Minutes as necessary, reporting on the financial and management of those businesses, allowed me to experience business at the highest level.

I have also chaired many of the management teams including Operational Boards.

On the reorganisation side I have managed redundancy programs for many of the businesses, chairing the consultation processes. How this process is dealt with has not only a direct impact on the staff leaving, but also on those still employed and therefore needs to be dealt with sensitively and professionally.

I have dealt with many company acquisitions, disposals and mergers, including TUPE requirements. Since 1993 I have reported to a least two Chief Executives at any one time, teaching me the art of time management and quality of information reporting.

Ultimately it is essential that any advice given is with a full understanding of the business and with the full involvement of the management team.

Management Inspirations | Services

The biggest challenge facing Small and Medium Sized businesses today is the balance of Time and Resource. In the age of rapid growth, tight margins, with now increasing interest rates, it is vital that the management of every business is able to focus on the day-to-day running of the business.

Successful businesses with great services and products to sell often fail to reach their true potential. Not enough quality time is able to be devoted to:

  • Detailed Strategy
  • Effective Reporting
  • Objective Management
  • Profit Analysis
  • Full Budgeting/Forecasting
  • Time Management
  • Targeting of Prospects
  • Client Profitability
  • Financial Management
  • Planning
  • IT Infrastructure
  • Process Mapping
  • Cost Controlling
  • Staff Input/Motivation
  • Targeted Investment
  • Employee Benefits
  • Potential Acquisitions & Mergers
  • Cashflow
  • Selection and Recruitment of Senior Management

Timing is critical.

Through my direct involvement as a Management Consultant and Business Strategist, while allowing the management to focus on the day-to-day business, I will concentrate on objectively reviewing and analysing all opportunities to ensure profitability is maintained and increased for the medium term.

The late 20th and early 21st centuries have seen businesses grow often quicker than their structure can cope with, often at reduced profit margins. An independent dedicated view will allow the business concentrate on its strength and grow on a sustainable basis.

It is often the case that there are some great ideas within the workforce but staff feel unable to come forward. As an independent consultant I can listen to those view confidentially and report back my finding without affecting existing relationships. This not only helps to improve business success, but also creates staff motivation and positive retention.

Through partner relationships help develop the IT infrastructure of the organisation through improved workflows and product/service quality.

I can also manage the process and progress of acquisitions, mergers, disposals, management buyouts, feasibility studies, including financing and debt recovery.
